Yes! Glance is completely free with no ads, no subscriptions, and no in-app purchases. There are no hidden costs or premium features.
Your media files are never uploaded, transmitted, or shared with any external servers. Glance accesses files only when you explicitly open them, and all data stays on your device. We don't collect, store, or share any of your personal information or media files.
Yes, you can delete files directly through Glance. The app will prompt you for confirmation before deleting (unless you've disabled this in settings). You can also undo a delete immediately after with ⌘⇧Z.
Absolutely! Glance extracts and displays comprehensive metadata including EXIF camera settings (aperture, shutter speed, ISO, focal length), GPS coordinates (if present), file dimensions, color space, bit depth, and more. For videos, you'll see codec information, bitrate, frame rate, and duration.
Glance requires macOS 13.0 (Ventura) or later. It's optimized for modern Mac hardware and takes advantage of the latest macOS features for the best performance.
Yes! Glance can be set as the default viewer for supported image and video formats. You can right-click any supported file, choose "Open With," and select Glance. The app will open in a focused view optimized for single-file viewing.
No. Glance uses an in-memory cache for performance (to speed up viewing when navigating between files), but this cache is cleared when you close the app. Your media files are never stored in a database or saved to disk by Glance. They remain in their original locations on your device.
Yes! Glance uses Apple's Vision framework to perform on-device text recognition (OCR). Detected text regions are highlighted with bounding boxes directly on the image, and all extracted text is copyable. This runs entirely on your Mac with no cloud processing involved.

Glance includes a full set of keyboard shortcuts: arrow keys to navigate between files, ⌘= and ⌘- to zoom, ⌘⇧P for pixel-to-pixel zoom, ⌘I to toggle the info panel, ⌘C to copy, ⌘⇧R to show in Finder, Delete to remove a file, and Space to play/pause videos. You can view all shortcuts from the Help menu.
Yes. You can copy the current image to your clipboard with ⌘C and paste it into other apps. You can also use the native macOS share menu to send files to AirDrop, Messages, Mail, and any other sharing extensions you have installed.
Yes. Glance uses Apple's Vision framework to detect faces and classify objects and scenes in your images, all on-device. Detection results are shown in the info panel with confidence scores, and detected tags can be copied to your clipboard.
